Everyone says recreation programs in care centres are important. The reality is that in practice, our programs and staff are continually devalued, and are under threat to be further decimated through a “generalist” approach in the provision of recreation services to clients. The threats are real, and require immediate action.
In this one hour session we will first confirm the challenges faced by recreation programs and recreation staff. We will then review strategic approaches to counter moves that de-value what we do, and that have the potential to lead to the outright dis-mantling of recreation as we know it today.
